TOPDON jump starters: match the engine size, then pick the extras
We research products from makers' specs, manuals and safety agencies; we do not run hands-on tests. Links to Amazon may earn us a commission at no cost to you. How this works.
Quick answer
TOPDON rates each jump starter by peak amps and the largest engine it can start. The JumpSurge3000 (JS3000) lists 3,000 A for gas engines up to 9 liters and diesel up to 7 liters, with up to 45 jumps per charge. The V2200Plus lists 2,200 A for 8 liters gas or 6 liters diesel, and adds a Bluetooth battery tester. Both are for 12 V vehicles; TOPDON's V4000 HD covers 12 V and 24 V systems.
TOPDON models compared
| Spec | JumpSurge3000 (JS3000) | V2200Plus | JumpSurge1500 (JS1500) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peak current | 3,000 A | 2,200 A | 1,500 A |
| Engine rating | 9 L gas, 7 L diesel | 8 L gas, 6 L diesel | 6.5 L gas, 4 L diesel |
| Battery | 88.8 Wh | 59.2 Wh | 37 Wh |
| Jumps per charge | Up to 45 | Up to 35 | Up to 25 |
| USB-C | PD 45 W in and out | PD 60 W in and out | 5 V input |
| Light | 400 lumens with SOS | 300 lumens, strobe and SOS | Not in spec list |
| Extra | Stop Spark sensor | Bluetooth battery tester | Phone charging |
TOPDON also sells the V3000, which it calls an upgraded JS3000 with the same 9 L gas and 7 L diesel rating. We did not find the V3000 or the JS1500 on Amazon in October 2026.
Match the engine, not just the amps
- Engine liters first: TOPDON lists a maximum engine size for each model; check your vehicle's engine against it.
- Diesel needs more: every TOPDON rating is lower for diesel than gas, such as 9 L gas versus 7 L diesel for the JS3000.
- 12 V only for most: the JS3000 and V2200Plus are for 12 V vehicles. For a 24 V truck or bus, TOPDON lists the V4000 HD for 12 V and 24 V systems; see our semi truck jump starter guide.
- Battery size: the JS3000's 88.8 Wh is 1.5 times the V2200Plus's 59.2 Wh, which is why it lists more jumps per charge and works as a larger power bank.
Boost mode for a fully dead battery
TOPDON's Boost function is for dead or damaged batteries. For the V2200Plus, TOPDON says it can start a vehicle even if the battery has 0 volts: press and hold BOOST for 1 second, then start the vehicle within the next 30 seconds. The JS3000 has the same BOOST button, which TOPDON calls a do-over button for dead or damaged batteries.
Connect the clamps as the vehicle's manual and the TOPDON manual direct before using Boost, and use it only for the short window TOPDON describes.
The V2200Plus battery tester
- Charging tests: loaded voltage, unloaded voltage and ripple, to check the vehicle's charging system.
- Cranking tests: cranking time and cranking voltage.
- Battery tests: measured cold cranking amps against the battery's rated CCA, and an overall health status for lead-acid 12 V batteries.
- Reports: TOPDON says the app stores results, useful for tracking a battery before it fails.
The tester runs through the TOPDON app over Bluetooth; TOPDON lists iOS 11 or later and Android 7 or later.
Charging phones and storing the pack
- Power bank: the V2200Plus lists a 60 W USB-C port and two 18 W USB ports; the JS3000 lists 45 W USB-C and an 18 W Quick Charge port. Charging a phone uses battery you may need for a jump.
- Temperature: TOPDON lists -4 to 140°F for the JS3000. The JS1500 lists a working range of 14 to 104°F, so check the range for your model before leaving it in a car.
- Overheating: the JS3000's Stop Spark sensor suspends use after too many jumps within 10 minutes.
- Warranty: TOPDON lists 1 year for these models.
