Quick answer
The Original (MG-05) is Mechanix's all-round glove: a hook-and-loop closure, a 0.8 mm synthetic leather palm and a CoolPlus mesh back. FastFit (MFF-05) swaps the closure for an elastic slip-on cuff and a thinner 0.6 mm palm, so it is quicker to pull on. M-Pact (MPT-58) adds 2 mm D3O impact padding in the palm and TPR knuckle protection for tools and rough handling. For cold weather, the ColdWork Original adds 60 gram 3M Thinsulate insulation and a water-resistant SoftShell back. All four are touchscreen capable.

Start with the closure and fit
Mechanix's two core styles differ at the wrist. The Original uses a thermoplastic rubber (TPR) hook-and-loop closure that Mechanix says creates a form-fitting, secure fit. FastFit uses a full-wrapping elastic cuff that Mechanix describes as easy on and off. If you take gloves on and off often, FastFit is quicker; if you want the wrist cinched down, the Original or M-Pact closure does that.
Mechanix sells these in sizes by hand measurement. Check its size chart against your hand before you order, because a loose glove loses dexterity.
Palm thickness and dexterity
Mechanix lists a 0.8 mm synthetic leather palm on the Original and M-Pact and a 0.6 mm palm on FastFit. Mechanix says FastFit's single-seam wrapped fingertip design removes vulnerable wear points and improves fit and dexterity, and its 2-piece palm reduces material bunching. The Original instead uses welded synthetic leather finger coverings that Mechanix says add abrasion resistance and comfort, plus a single mesh panel on the back that reduces seams and snagging.
Impact protection
The M-Pact is the impact glove of the three. Mechanix lists 2 mm D3O impact and vibration dissipating palm padding, a welded TPR knuckle and finger design, a reinforced index finger and thumb, and a water-repellent ripstop back. The Original and FastFit have vented palm heel padding that Mechanix says protects from light strikes and vibration, not the full knuckle armor of M-Pact.
Cold and wet weather
For winter work, Mechanix's ColdWork Original uses 60 gram 3M Thinsulate Eco insulation, a water-resistant SoftShell back to block wind, a 360 degree water-resistant treatment, an Armortex thumb saddle and a TPR closure. The standard Original and FastFit have a CoolPlus woven-mesh back meant to reduce heat buildup, which is the opposite of what you want in snow.
Read the ANSI rating, not the name
Mechanix lists an ANSI/ISEA 105 certification line on each of these gloves and links a spec sheet and declaration of conformity. ANSI/ISEA 105 is the U.S. standard for rating hand protection against hazards such as cuts, abrasion and punctures. Read the levels on the spec sheet for the exact model. Mechanix sells a separate line of cut-resistant gloves, so if you handle sharp sheet metal or broken glass, shop that category rather than assuming a general work glove is enough.
Which one to keep in a kit
Match the glove to the job you expect. For general cleanup, loading and vehicle work, the Original is Mechanix's all-round choice with a secure closure. If you need to take gloves off often to handle a phone, keys or small parts, FastFit's slip-on cuff is faster, and all four are touchscreen capable anyway. For clearing debris, swinging tools or rough handling, the M-Pact's D3O palm padding and TPR knuckles add protection; Mechanix also lists a grip panel at the base of the fingers and AirHammer palm padding that wraps the outside of the hand. For storms and winter outages, keep a pair of ColdWork Original gloves with your cold-weather gear.
Many people keep two pairs: a light pair for dexterity and a padded or insulated pair for the heavier or colder jobs.
Care and touchscreens
Mechanix lists all four as touchscreen capable, and lists the Original, FastFit and M-Pact as machine washable. Follow the care label for the exact pair you buy.
