3000 watt solar generator: what the 3 kWh class can and cannot do

Quick answer
Most "3000 watt" solar generators are really 3,072 Wh batteries with about 3,600 W of AC output. Jackery's HomePower 3000 and EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Ultra both list 3,072 Wh, 3,600 W continuous and 7,200 W surge, plus a 30 A RV-style outlet. They differ on solar input (up to about 1,000 W on the Jackery, 800 W or 1,600 W on the EcoFlow versions), weight (59.5 lb vs about 72 lb) and UPS switchover (about 20 ms vs under 10 ms). At full 3,600 W output, a full battery lasts under an hour.
Watts, watt-hours and what "3000" means
Two numbers matter. Output watts set what you can run at once; stored watt-hours set how long it lasts. Both units below store 3,072 Wh and deliver 3,600 W, so the "3000" in the name is shorthand for the class, not either exact rating.
Simple runtime math from 3,072 Wh, before inverter losses:
- Full 3,600 W load: 3,072 / 3,600 = 0.85 hours, about 51 minutes.
- A 150 W average load (for example, a refrigerator cycling on and off): 3,072 / 150 = about 20 hours.
Measure your own appliances; the averages above are illustrations, not ratings.
Jackery HomePower 3000 vs EcoFlow DELTA 3 Ultra
| Spec | Jackery HomePower 3000 | EcoFlow DELTA 3 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 3,072 Wh LiFePO4 | 3,072 Wh LFP |
| AC output | 3,600 W total, 7,200 W surge | 3,600 W total, 7,200 W surge; X-Boost to 4,600 W |
| AC outlets | 4 x 20 A, 1 x 30 A | 4 x 20 A, 1 x 30 A |
| Solar input | 2 DC ports, up to 24 A / 1,000 W combined at 16 to 60 V | 800 W (Ultra) or 1,600 W (Ultra Plus) |
| Wall charging | 2.2 hours with the AC adapter (spec table) | 0 to 80% in 89 minutes |
| UPS switchover | About 20 ms | Under 10 ms |
| Weight | About 59.5 lb | 32.7 kg, about 72.1 lb |
| Size | 16.4 x 12.8 x 12 in | About 24.6 x 12.9 x 15.5 in (H x W x D) |
| Discharge temperature | 5 to 113°F (2,000 W limit from 5 to 14°F) | 14 to 113°F |
| Warranty | 3 + 2 years | 3 years, plus 2 with app registration |
Jackery's own page is inconsistent on charging: its spec table lists 2.2 hours with the AC adapter, while its marketing copy says "as fast as about 1.7 hours." Plan on the spec-table figure. Jackery lists 4,000 cycles to 70% or more capacity; the EcoFlow spec block did not list a cycle rating.
How fast solar refills 3 kWh
Divide capacity by solar input to get the best case, with panels delivering their full rating the whole time:
- 800 W input: 3,072 / 800 = about 3.8 hours of full-power sun.
- 1,000 W input: 3,072 / 1,000 = about 3.1 hours.
- 1,600 W input: 3,072 / 1,600 = about 1.9 hours.
Real days fall short of that, since panels seldom deliver their full rating hour after hour. The bundles reflect the gap: Jackery sells the HomePower 3000 with two SolarSaga 200W panels (400 W) or a SolarSaga 500 X, and EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Ultra bundles include two 220 W panels, one or two 400 W panels, or a 500 W kit. A 400 W bundle needs at least 7.7 full-sun hours (3,072 / 400) to refill from empty, so more panels shorten the wait. Jackery also says not to mix different panel models.
Home circuits, RVs and sensitive electronics
- House circuits: Jackery says the HomePower 3000 can feed home circuits through a manual transfer switch, keeping up to 6 essential circuits running. Any connection to house wiring belongs to a licensed electrician.
- RVs: both have a 30 A outlet. Jackery notes that powering an RV requires a grounding adapter.
- UPS limits: Jackery describes its about 20 ms switchover as fine for everyday electronics but not recommended for sensitive devices like data servers. EcoFlow lists under 10 ms.
- Bypass: Jackery's bypass mode passes up to 12 A, 1,440 W, from the wall while plugged in.
At about 30 A for 3,600 W on 120 V, these units can run a lot at once, but every load still draws down the same 3,072 Wh.
Cold, storage and placement
Both list charging only between 32°F and 113°F. Jackery allows discharge down to 5°F, with output limited to 2,000 W from 5 to 14°F; EcoFlow lists discharge down to 14°F and an optimal range of 68 to 86°F. In a winter outage, keep the unit inside, where it will also charge.
Weight decides where it lives: about 60 lb for the Jackery and about 72 lb for the EcoFlow. Store it near where you will use it, such as beside the refrigerator or transfer switch, rather than planning to carry it up stairs in the dark. If you recharge from a fuel generator, run the generator outdoors only.
What to look for when you buy
Lighter 3 kWh example: Jackery Solar Generator HomePower 3000
Best for: Fridge, lights and devices for a day or more, with a transfer switch option
Jackery lists 3,072 Wh LiFePO4, 3,600 W (7,200 W surge), a 30 A outlet, about 59.5 lb, 4,000 cycles to 70%+ and manual transfer switch support for up to 6 circuits.
Watch out: About 20 ms UPS, not for sensitive servers. Solar input tops out around 1,000 W across two DC ports.

Best for: Desks and electronics that need a quick UPS handoff
EcoFlow lists 3,072 Wh LFP, 3,600 W (7,200 W surge, X-Boost 4,600 W), under 10 ms UPS, 800 W solar input and 0 to 80% wall charging in 89 minutes.
Watch out: About 72 lb. The 1,600 W solar input belongs to the Ultra Plus version, not the base Ultra.

Best for: Long outages where faster solar refill matters most
EcoFlow lists 1,600 W of solar input on the Plus version, about 1.9 full-sun hours to refill 3,072 Wh in the best case.
Watch out: About 74 lb (33.7 kg). Panels rarely hold full rating; buy enough panel watts to use the input.

- What can a 3000 watt solar generator run?
- Anything whose combined running draw stays under about 3,600 W on these models. A full 3,072 Wh battery lasts about 51 minutes at full output and about 20 hours at a 150 W average.
- How long does it take to charge a 3000W solar generator with solar?
- In the best case, about 3.8 hours at 800 W of input, 3.1 hours at 1,000 W or 1.9 hours at 1,600 W. Real sun is usually slower.
- Can a 3000 watt solar generator power a house?
- Selected circuits, through a properly installed transfer switch. Jackery says the HomePower 3000 can run up to 6 essential circuits that way.
- Jackery HomePower 3000 or EcoFlow DELTA 3 Ultra?
- Same battery and output. The Jackery is lighter at about 59.5 lb; the EcoFlow has a faster sub-10 ms UPS and an Ultra Plus option with 1,600 W solar input.
