Choose a camp coffee percolator by mugs, heat and handles

Quick answer
For a camp stove, compare the COLETTI Bozeman 9 Cup with the GSI Glacier 9 Cup, model 65209. Choose the COLETTI Butte 14 Cup when you need a larger pot with a wire bail for a suitable campfire setup. Buy by usable liquid capacity and your actual mugs, not the cup count alone. These are unpowered percolators; they need an appropriate heat source, safe water and attention while brewing.

Count your mugs before comparing cup labels
COLETTI’s current Bozeman page defines its 9 Cup size as 45 fl oz, using a 5 fl oz coffee cup. Three 12 fl oz mugs use 36 fl oz; four full mugs require 48 fl oz. A claim of about four mugs therefore involves smaller fills, not four full 12 fl oz servings. This is simple division and capacity planning, not a measured brewing result.
The Butte product page describes its cup as approximately 6 fl oz. The two COLETTI pages therefore do not use a single cup definition. GSI publishes 1.3 L for its 9 Cup silicone-handle version. Compare the maker’s fluid capacity with your mugs and desired fill, and allow for the actual fill line. Avoid treating a larger printed cup count as an exact number of people served.
A larger pot is useful only if it fits your heat source and the way you carry supplies. For a vehicle-supported camp kitchen, group capacity may matter more than packed size. If you are carrying the full load, compare the complete setup, including fuel, coffee, mugs and safe water.
Match the specific pot to the heat source
The standard Bozeman stainless product page expressly excludes induction. COLETTI sells different induction and electric products under related names, so a general Bozeman search is not enough. Choose the exact model and follow both the stove and pot instructions. Stainless steel as a material label does not establish that a pot will work on an induction cooktop.
The Butte instructions show a wire bail for suspending the pot over an appropriate heat source. GSI’s selected silicone-handle family is described for stovetops. Its other Glacier family uses a different handle arrangement, so do not transfer campfire permissions between the two. The GSI replacement resin-top page specifically warns that the top is not fireproof.
Before buying, check pot support against your stove’s cookware limits. A narrow backpacking burner and a broad filled group pot need a compatibility check, rather than an assumption based on shared camping labels. Our camp stove guide explains other parts of that choice.
Understand what changes the coffee you pour
A percolator circulates heated water up the stem and over grounds in a basket. The glass or resin viewing top helps you observe percolation without opening the lid. Choose coarse grounds and follow the model instructions for assembly, fill level and heat. The COLETTI inserts tell you to keep grounds out of the stem and not fill past the spout openings.
COLETTI’s Bozeman insert permits an optional paper filter. That can suit someone who wants to limit loose sediment, but does not remove the need to assemble the basket correctly or control the heat. We have not brewed with these products and do not rank them by measured taste, extraction, speed or temperature.
The Bozeman support page and the supplied inserts give brewing guidance that differs from some newer product-page FAQs. Use the instructions accompanying your exact pot and adjust to your preference within those directions. Do not use a universal timer as proof that every fill and heat source produces the same result.
Handle a hot pot as a hot pot
GSI warns against overfilling, boiling dry, opening the lid or removing the PercView top while heating. It also directs users to let the pot cool before cleaning or disassembling and to avoid rapidly cooling it. These precautions are more useful than treating a handle material as a promise that the whole pot stays cool.
COLETTI’s inserts suggest allowing the pot to cool or using an insulated pad or oven mitt. Plan a stable place to set the pot before lifting it. Keep children and pets clear, and do not move a filled pot by improvising a grip on a viewing knob or lid. Follow the instructions for controlling the lid while pouring.
For an outage, an unpowered pot still leaves you with a heat-source decision. CPSC warns that camping stoves used in tents, campers and vehicles can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Use an outdoor cooking setup in accordance with its manual. Do not move a portable camp stove indoors simply to make coffee.
Choose care and replacement parts you can manage
The GSI page directs hand washing with warm soapy water, thorough drying and avoiding abrasive cleaners. Its spare PercView page names 65209 among the compatible models. That is a documented replacement route for the top; it is not a promise that every part in a different GSI family fits. Check the part number before ordering.
COLETTI’s support page recommends cleaning the removable brewing pieces and avoiding abrasive tools. Inspect a new pot, especially the viewing top, before putting it into use. Stop using a damaged component and obtain the maker’s instructions for an appropriate replacement. A steel body does not eliminate breakable parts.
GSI states a lifetime warranty against material and workmanship defects with repair or replacement at its discretion. COLETTI’s current product pages advertise one-year coverage, while its support page contains a lifetime-registration prompt. We did not verify consistent COLETTI warranty terms, so do not choose between these pots on an assumed lifetime promise.
Check the model and the rest of the camp kitchen
The selected silver Bozeman is Bozeman-SS-09C and the silver Butte is Butte-SS-14C. GSI’s selected silicone-handle 9 Cup pot is 65209. Check the exact size and handle type on Amazon before selecting an offer. A related electric percolator, accessory-only listing or different capacity is not the product compared here.
Keep the water plan separate from the coffee purchase. None of these pots is a water filter or a claim that an untreated supply is ready to drink. Bring safe water and follow applicable public-health guidance for any treatment you need. The emergency water storage guide covers planning a household reserve.
For a practical decision, choose the safe heat source first, then the needed fluid capacity, then the handle and care arrangement you prefer. You can get a useful pot without buying a complete new kitchen, but the purchase should fit the equipment you already have and know how to use.
What to look for when you buy
COLETTI Bozeman 9 Cup, Bozeman-SS-09C
Best for: A stove-based camp kitchen that wants a glass viewing top
The maker lists a stainless steel brewing path, a glass viewing top and a 45 fl oz nominal brew capacity for the standard 9 Cup version. Its published insert explains a removable basket and stem, with a paper filter optional.
Watch out: The standard stainless Bozeman is not induction compatible. It differs from the electric, induction and color-series products. Treat the handle and metal parts as potentially hot.

Best for: A group camp kitchen with a suitable way to support a larger pot
COLETTI describes 18/8 stainless steel construction, a glass viewing knob and a metal wire bail that can suspend the pot over an appropriate heat source. The maker publishes a separate Butte instruction sheet.
Watch out: The maker defines a cup differently from the Bozeman page. Confirm usable ounces for your group before ordering; do not assume 14 full mugs. A bail does not make a pot safe to handle without heat protection.
See options on Amazon (opens Amazon in a new tab)GSI Glacier Stainless 9 Cup with Silicone Handle, 65209
Best for: Stovetop brewing with a hinged lid and replaceable resin viewing top
GSI lists 18/8 stainless steel, a silicone-covered handle, a hinged lid and a clear resin PercView knob. The 9 Cup version lists 1.3 L capacity and dimensions of 8.8 by 5.1 by 7.7 inches. The maker parts page explicitly names model 65209.
Watch out: This is the silicone-handle stovetop family, not GSI’s separate wire-bail campfire range. The replacement resin top is not fireproof. Do not expose it to flames or treat the handle cover as an unrestricted heat shield.

- Does a 9 cup percolator fill nine mugs?
- Not on the Bozeman page: COLETTI lists 45 fl oz total for its standard 9 Cup pot. Compare that amount with your actual mugs rather than counting the maker’s small coffee cups as full mugs.
- Does the standard Bozeman work on induction?
- No. COLETTI distinguishes the standard stainless Bozeman from a separate induction-compatible version. The pot on this page is the standard unpowered 9 Cup product.
- Can I put the GSI silicone-handle model into a campfire?
- Use this selected family according to GSI’s stovetop directions. Its replacement resin viewing top is explicitly not fireproof. Do not transfer instructions from the separate GSI wire-bail campfire family.
- Are paper filters required?
- The Bozeman insert says the paper filter is optional. Coarse grounds and correct assembly remain important; a filter does not compensate for an incorrectly assembled stem or excessive heat.
- Can I use a camping stove indoors during an outage?
- Do not use a portable outdoor camp stove in an enclosed space. CPSC warns that stoves used in tents, campers and vehicles can cause fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. Follow the heat source manual.
